05/01/2004 Entry: "Who ARE these people you talk about?"
Bush has mentioned this a couple of times of late. I'd like him to cite exactly who he's talking about.
President Bush said yesterday that people who have skin that is "a different color than white" are capable of self-government.Bush made the comment during a Rose Garden news conference, while discussing his goal of more freedom in the Middle East.
"There's a lot of people in the world who don't believe that people whose skin color may not be the same as ours can be free and self-govern," Bush said.
"I reject that. I reject that strongly. I believe that people who practice the Muslim faith can self-govern. I believe that people whose skins aren't necessarily -- are a different color than white can self-govern."
That was a variation on Bush's frequent point that he disagrees with those who say that Muslims or people who are brown-skinned cannot be self-governing or free.
White House press secretary Scott McClellan was peppered later with questions about what Bush meant. Bush never says who the people are who think that, and McClellan did not, either.

Gosh. It sounds like the so-called president has been having Laura read him the Sparks Notes summaries of Kipling. It is good that he believes that Asians, Africans and Latin Americans to name just a few types of folk who have been doing just fine at the whole self-governing thing for awhile should be able to keep on keeping on. It's very...white of him. What I want to know, and what he should be asked to come forth with, is who exactly it is who believes that an abundance of melanin precludes the ability to self-govern? There are apparently a lot of people telling the so-called president this opinion. He ought to come forth and call them out, tell them they're wrong in front of everyone. That's what he ought to do...

sounds like the latest desperate thrashing about from the Bush campaigns death throes - implying that opposition to the war is tantamount to bigotry.
I guess their chutzpah truly knows no bounds.

It seems that in addition to believing this is a "Christian" nation (apparently Laura has put neither the Federalist Papers nor the Constititon itself on his bedtime story list yet) Bushco believes that the US is a WHITE nation.
"A skin color different from ours"?? Let's see, would that be a skin color different from Jesse Jackson Jr.? Different from Daniel Inouye? Different from Ben Nighthorse Campbell? I'm trying to make it easy for President Baby by citing only members of Congess here since he would at least see these folks once a year at the State of the Union address.
If Robert Byrd made a statement like this he would be denounced from every right-wing pulpit in the land as a bigot unfit to hold the office of dogcatcher. Why is Bush getting a free pass on this one?
I am irresistably reminded of the old Lone Ranger and Tonto joke which concludes with the line "What you mean WE, white man?"
