So, Laura the Librarian goes to Florida, hangs out with Jeb, and salutes the troops. In light of all that's happened this month alone, her remarks provide a vivid sketch of just how out of touch the White House really is.

First lady Laura Bush thanked servicemembers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan for their dedication, telling nearly 150 soldiers recently returned from fighting that they have the nation's support.

Speaking at a rally before about 5,000 central Florida residents, Bush said the troops are the face of American compassion abroad.

``You will have more impact on people than you can ever know,'' said Bush, who was joined by her brother-in-law, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and acting Army Secretary Les Brownlee.

Five Florida National Guard F-15s flew over the stadium during the ceremony, which was punctuated with patriotic songs, country music and military demonstrations.

``This is a slice of Norman Rockwell,'' said U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Florida. ``This is a small token of love and appreciation of what they've done.''

Rockwell? More like Orwell. Military demonstrations?

well, um, what did you expect? it was a salute to the military and our troops.

I'm not sure what they mean by 'military demonstrations'... a parade of military equipment and weaponry? they shot off cannons? a unit marched past the review stand?

in any case I'm not sure that it qualifies as "Orwell".

Well she said one thing right. The country is behind it's military personnel. The trouble is why is'nt the white house behind them? Then she stand's beside swamp thing JEB. Sound's like a real stumpjumper, does'nt it. Oh well, only a short time more and dust bowl texas can have back their favorite son, and this time keep him.
