Locking the barn door...
Exercise in futility.
A Web site published dozens of photographs of American war dead arriving at the nation's largest military mortuary, prompting the Pentagon to order an information clampdown Thursday. The photographs were released last week to First Amendment activist Russ Kick, who had filed a Freedom of Information Act request to receive the images. Air Force officials initially denied the request but decided to release the photos after Kick appealed their decision.
After Kick posted more than 350 photographs on his Web site, the Defense Department barred the further release of the photographs to media outlets.

Another case of this government abridging our freedoms.
The press is now a large international corporate enterprise speaking the truth as filtered by the government.
This government which permitted an oligopolistic concentration of media power in the hands of a few who are now beholden to the government which let them be created.

How the fuck can DoD bar further release of the images to media outlets? I mean, all they have to do is write to Kick and he'll email them hi-res photos from the CD-ROM, right? Or are they banning him from doing that too?
Oh well, not like the SCLM will notice. After all, Jacko got indicted. Pictures of war dead? Ho hum.

Since the pics are government generated, one can download them off the web without permission -- and use them the same way. "Not release" is moot by now, and saying they "won't be released" any more is something between bravado and ignorance -- not that one can expect an intelligent statement out of a stonewalling branch of government.

What I want to know is why is someone who bills himself as a "steady leader" afraid of some photographs?

"Pentagon furious over coffin pix"
Is it just me, or do they seem to be a lot more upset (like way off the chart)about these PICTURES of people who have died than they are upset about the people dying?
The Pentagon seems to think nearly any amount of deaths will be worth what they want to do but...how dare anyone offend the sensibilities of the families by showing even one coffin photo that conveys the respectful and honorable treatment the dead are receiving when their remains are returned to the U.S.
Has any objective source (if there is such an animal anymore) heard photo outrage from the hundreds of family members related to those who died due to Bush's war? I'm guessing they are a lot more upset about the deaths than the photos, and that more probably are upset about the lack of photos than the appearance of (respectful) photos.
