I don't think Sen. Kerry should
worry about his medal's, and his
service record's. We know he has
served, and as for the bush, we
also know he did'nt.
Go after bush on the economy, jobs
and the U.S being hated by alot
of our allies. Kerry is a better
statesman than shit for brains, &
he can get more support for our
country, now that we are in this
mess, thanks to the ass in our
White House. Hit bush where it
hurts. Bush has no defense on the
mess he has made. We seen how he
does at new's meeting's.
Get the juglar, and rip it out.
Thank you

While Kerry was helping the Viet Cong win the war, Bush volunteered for Vietnam, but was rejected.

Thank God the Kerry campaign team is willing to come out fighting on this issue. I hope they'll start hitting hard on lots of other issues instead of pussy-footing around.

the real issue for me about bush's air national guard record is not its defectiveness. it's not his arrogant assumption of privilege at every stage of the process: application, admission, training, obligation fulfillment. it's not his unauthorized skip-off to alabama in spring of 72; it's not his failure to take his annual physical that summer; it's not his insolent behavior as part of the blount senate campaign--his surrogate ticket-to-ride. it's not the alleged community service tradeoff at p.u.l.l. in early 73. (the subsequent application as governor for new drivers' licenses, to wipe the record clear--that, yes!) it's not the early summer 73 cramming to make up lost service dates. it's not the early bailout to attend harvard.
no, the real damage of this issue still lays awaiting examination by the mainstream media. that would be the damage accruing to the total lack of forthrightness with which the 'adult' bush has confronted his dissolute youth--military service included, in retrospect. instead of honesty and transparency, the adult george w. has laid down a lengthy record of dodging, dissembling, lying, and to use his agent's own words "file scouring". he's hidden behind the skirts of karen hughes and dan bartlett and whoever else was thrown forth as spokesperson, as they tap the dance and pull the wool on his behalf. as recently as two months ago he was still lying about this issue, unchallenged, on network national tv. he had already made all his guard records public, he told tim russert, only days before he grudgingly authorized release of yet another substantial--however notoriously incomplete--previously unissued document package. that was all part of a historical performance that betrays his true character, a performance that spans both sides of the divide of his self-proclaimed religious enlightenment.
it's poisoned his history thoroughly--as failed businessman, physical fitness governor, and vacation president. there's the texas rangers' stadium land condemnation; the stewardship at harken energy--replete with offshore $$$ fronts and the dumping of stock on insider knowledge (and his gubernatorial campaign dodge on the investigation thereof--i.e. he was explicitly not exonerated); his smarmy duplicity acknowledging (not!) his deep-seated mutual interdependence on kenny-boy lay; his preposterous credit assumption for texas legislation he either opposed or vetoed; his masquerade as a compassionate conservative presidential candidate who would build a foreign policy on humility and which would not comprise nation-building, and who would bring the spirit of bipartisanship back to washington, a new more civil tone, etc. etc. etc. what'd i leave out? i'm sure tons.
not only does george w. have deep-seated problems with honesty and responsibility, but the country finds itself at a critical stage of its history, bizarrely asked to accept as a 'given' strength precisely what represents the man's fatal character weakness. straight-talkin' hombre or bull slinger? were we lied to about the justifications for his tax cuts, lied to about their beneficiaries? were we lied to about the cost of the medical legislation? were we lied to about job creation? were we lied to about the sensitivity of a long list of government documents, that were subsequently declassified-on-demand when it suited his political purposes? were we lied to about his actions on the day of 9/11? for god's sake, were we lied into war? war!!! were we lied to about it's necessity, it's duration, it's cost? were we lied to about his not reading the newspapers, but on the other hand that he does read the bible, daily? (his wife says he does read the papers, by the way.) did he lie before the world at the last press conference about the structure of the 6 august 01 pdb? you tell me. did he lie about the context for the "not being on point" quote? woodward ain't saying. what do we believe? the man gets lost in his own lies. it's a frigging labyrinth of lies. he ran that blount senate campaign on lies, he ran his south carolina primary campaign against john mccain on lies, and he now runs his campaign against john kerry on lies.
asking the public to place faith in this man's credibility in the face of all that is a stretch beyond ultimate elasticity.
so the real key to the george w. bush awol story is not particularly the story itself--however instructive it will be once and if the mainstream media ever decides to have a go at it. no, the real key to all this is how bush has dealt with the air national guard issue ever since. therein lies the lie that has defined this man and given him a free ride throughout his life. let's really get mano a mano. that's the real focus here; how has he faced up to his guard service ever since?

jesus, i though i posted long comments...
seriously though, how can you expect a man born of Nazi collaborators, and raised by the CIA to grow up with a single shred of honesty, dignity or morality in him. that formula is practically a manual on "how to raise a sociopath" ("for dummies" no less)
our only hope is that history will judge him harshly (and his creator, assuming there is one, will judge him even more severely. after all, doing evil in god's name really has to piss him/her/it/them off, it would me...) i can only hope that there is a special place in hell reserved especially for him, and that his nazi grandfather and great grandfather are keeping it warm for him...
