04/28/2004 Entry: "Kerry and Bush"

Kerry and Bush

I was going to write this in the comments for the Wes Clark op-ed, but I figured I'd put it right out front. I wanted to toss out a sentence and have everyone look at it for a moment. Here it is.

A wartime deserter sends surrogates to attack a decorated war hero.

The sentence is stunning in its outrageousness. George W. Bush did in fact disappear from his Guard post after the government spent nearly a million dollars training him. He did not, in fact, produce anything near conclusive proof that he fulfilled his obligations to our government and the Texas Air National Guard. He only escaped closer scrutiny over the issue because he rope-a-doped the media until they were tired of asking questions to which no answers would ever be forthcoming, and he topped it off by doing a document dump - which included such utter detritus as a receipt for a dental appointment and a hernia operation when he was a teenager - on a Friday afternoon and then had his surrogates declare the matter closed.

In short, he put out the mother of all smokescreens, and the media fell for it.

And now, in the midst of a political campaign, he sends out people like Dick Cheney (who hauled in a record six draft deferments to avoid going to Viet Nam, the last of which he got for impregnating his repulsive shrew of a wife) and Karen Hughes (who left the White House under the guise of 'spending more time with her family' - I guess she spent enough time with them, because now she's taken up near-constant residence on any TV show that will allow her prevaricating ass to sit in a chair) to whine about Kerry's 'flip-flops' and how he is somehow not fit to lead the country because he had the nerve to go to a country at war, save some fellow sailors, get some of the highest decorations this country can bestow on its military, then come home and tell the American people the truth about how wrong that war was.

And there are those - including one poster to my comments - who actually buy this bullshit and repeat the talking points as if they make sense. This one commenter - who once cried like a baby because I hinted that he should find another place to post, was on my comments yesterday telling people that if they didn't like being lied to by Bush and Cheney, they should 'fucking leave' the country.

It's all I can do to keep from growing dizzy at the rampant hypocrisy and the overwhelming stench of blind, jingoistic, unquestioning fealty to a man who was given the chance to serve this great country - and bailed for reasons that he refuses to disclose.

And that is the type of people we're dealing with here. People who take the easy way out for themselves, who avoid the hard choices in life and who have gotten everything they have through the largesse of privilege, criticizing and belittling a man who actually got in the way of bullets in a hot zone and got medals for his wounds, medals for his bravery. These same people make a living by duping people like my lone commenter, and for some reason the duped actually seem to like being lied to, This attitude is ignorant and hopelessly stupid, and this type of rank stupidity makes me fear for my country almost more than the thought of the deserting, selfish greedheads we were collectively stupid enough to allow to occupy offices of leadership in the first place.

Kerry served and was rewarded. George W. Bush ran away. All his supporters are able to do in response is trash Kerry's reputation, much like they did to decorated veteran Max Cleland, and even one of their own loyal footsoldiers, John McCain.

Those are the facts on the ground. Now tell me to 'fucking leave' the country for telling you, and I'll tell you to take your fake patriotism, your smarmy innuendo, and your desperation politics and shove them up your ass with both hands.

Steady there big fella.

i think I'm gonna sue you for plagiarism. I shouted something very similar at my TV last night.

As I've posted many times - this is a classic test of what Republicans really support and admire.

Kerry - Excellent student, enlisted and volunteered for Nam, served with honor and was highly praised and decorated, 20 years of service in the Senate.

Bush - Below average student who needed daddy's help to get into Yale, below average grades, excelled as head cheerleader and head partier, had daddy's help avoiding the draft and getting into the TANG, generously AWOL and had his flying status revoked, failed repeatedly in business but dady's friends bailed him out over and over.

Republicans honor the second record!!

"Now tell me to 'fucking leave' the country for telling you, and I'll tell you to take your fake patriotism, your smarmy innuendo, and your desperation politics and shove them up your ass with both hands."

Heh.

I think the phrase you're looking for is "... take your fake patriotism, your smarmy innuendo, and your desperation politics, fold them until they're all sharp corners and shove them up your ass until you bleed out."

Well, at least that's more or less the one _I_ was looking for.

all riiiiight, blah3. get 'em!

several traps to avoid. (america, love it or leave it? been there. done that. next.) but, the biggest, phoniest trap is laid by the bush campaign. i.e. to oppose the iraq war is to advocate cutting and running. NOT! when bush says "stay the course", who knows what fucking blather he's implying? because his course definitely needs NOT staying, and he himself is making it up as he goes along. (oh, united nations daddy, come help clean up this i made.) but, it's a good thing, his reintroduction of "stay the course"; i like that; it's a loser phrase. come on, more park sausages, ma. next, how 'bout "a thousand points of light"? those compassionate conservative credentials need some buffing. but, the choice is NOT between bush on one hand and getting out of iraq on the other. that's all they keep repeating over and over, press conference, speeches, ranthead radio, ads. this is also a good thing; it's a bubble begging popping. here's the choice: bush (irresponsible leadership) or kerry (responsible leadership). very simple. in either case, for better or worse, we're in iraq for a looong time now. so, we're aiming to stay the course all right, but a defined and modified course, with adults in charge. go run along, now, georgie, nap time.

meanwhile, i know it's hard, but i wish everyone could ignore the chattering class' drones. not worth the feeding. how hard is it to take "bwaaaaaa" and just roll on over it?

once again re your post: wow.

Posted by oldupperwestsideLIBERALjew @ 04/28/2004 11:30 AM NY

Let's cut to the chase, as they say.

Forget the medals , who served , when and where--we need to get out of Iraq quick--we create a bigger hell there every day we stay.

Well said! Your diatribe should be the banner story in every newspaper in the U.S.! How anyone can think that Bush has a claim to moral superiority over John Kerry, based on his personal conduct and responsibility for his actions, is mentally insane!

Kerry is a much more honorable and accomplished man than Bush. George looks like a sniveling, spoiled, lazy, ne'er-do-well rich kid next to Kerry, and that is because he is all of those things!!!!

Posted by Stephen Kriz @ 04/28/2004 11:48 AM NY

I think Georgie is just dreamy - especially when he wants to wear his cowboy boots to bed and yell "Unleash Chiang", after he ropes and hog-ties me.

I really need a couple more Xanax and a few stiff martinis before Georgie gets home from the office....

Right on! I love the blogosphere.

Posted by dividedandconquered @ 04/28/2004 12:11 PM NY

Well put, my brother!

Can anybody name one positive thing these fuckups have done since they stole the White House? Fucked up the economy, fucked up catching bin Laden, fucked up Iraq. Why would anyone with half a brain vote for these morons?

Um... Robin, last I looked, New Mexico was one of the 50 United States. Of America.

They don't teach geography at your elementary school?

You go Blah3. Just remember, not all conservatives are stupid, but all stupid people are conservative.

You just can't argue with stupids, why try?

And if you can't argue with the assholes, just ignore them.

Posted by Schrams @ 04/28/2004 02:44 PM NY

As a commenter to one of my threads said, this issue is not worth it. It distracts from the more important ones, like Bush's crimes committed IN OFFICE. Rove would much rather argue these talking points, no matter how ridiculous--because even these talking points go over the heads of the Average Moron-American swing voter.

If they can actually not tell the difference between Bush's war record and Kerry's...then there is no hope for our country. But I'm not giving up just YET.

Keep it up, Robin. You're a brave motherfucker, I'll give you that. Stupid--but brave. Robin is a HE, folks, at least by his own insistence.

Posted by Daddy-O @ 04/28/2004 03:07 PM NY

really, robin is a he... not a very common name for a man really, unless you count "batman and..."
should have known, women are usually less arrogant about their stupidity...

There is one thing and one thing only that MIGHT shake Bush's blind loyalists: If he gets caught in a sex scandal. Has to be that because there's nothing they react more violently to than anything connected with sex. Even then they might say, "Boys will be boys", since Bush himself admitted he was 40 years old before he got control of his behavior.

bush would have to be found in bed with either a dead woman, or a live man to turn his followers against him

Posted by justin @ 04/28/2004 09:51 PM NY

I dont know how to put this gently so i wont try.

If the swing voters are as smart as most of the people here, Bush wins.

Why you ask? One person and only one person figured out it wasnt me who wrote what (the) said. Good Job Metro

As I have said before and will repeat. The medal/ ribbon issue is not about service. It is about how Kerry handles himself when confronted about the issue. Now I did notice that the esteemed editor didnt post the Kerry screw up with Charlie Gibson. That is what Bushco is trying to show about Kerry. And you know what?, It works.

Posted by Robin Hacker @ 04/29/2004 08:23 AM NY

It only works for as long as you keep on drinking that kool-aid, Robin...

Kerry seems to be handling himself in a rational manner, actually discussing the issues he is asked about.

I do notice that you are almost pathologically afraid of making any statements about the Chimperor. Maybe because you can't make any honest ones?

And everyone knew it wasn't you in the comments, troll. That comment was more rational than anything you've spewed around here, for starters...

Posted by (: Tom :) @ 04/29/2004 11:43 AM NY

Then maybe you should consider the fact if Bush is as bad as what is spewn here, why isn't Kerry ahead in the polls?

Also not EVERYONE knew it wasn't me or are you saying METRO is the dumb one.

Grape, Please

Forgive me for not posting everything that Robin Hacker feels important to post.

Why not start your own damn blog? The you can post whatever you feel is worth posting.

Editor, I was merely pointing out your obvious bias. Thank you for the notice.

Posted by Robin Hacker @ 04/29/2004 05:41 PM NY

You're the kind of Democrat that belongs in the Republican Party. You're going to point out his "obvious bias," are you? Congratulations; you've just picked up on the reason this blog exists! Amazing.
And you might not want to make any more snarky comments about anyone's intelligence, either. Unintended irony is always funny, but tragic.
