05/03/2004 Entry: "This is clearly not working."

This is clearly not working.

I tried, I really tried.

I gave Greymatter my best shot, stuck with it for a year. But it seems to slow down as more posts are added, and it's killing the CPU on my server.

So sometime over the next few days, I'm switching to Moveable Type. There may be downtime, but I'm not sure how much. I'm gonna archive the Greymatter stuff and move on.

There is so much to say, and this software is moving way too slow for me at this point.

There will be a change this week. Bear with me, and thanks for reading.

WHOA there! At least leave this place up while you're getting the new site running. How else will we get the new addy to bookmark?

While you're at it, give us newbies details on How You Set Up A Blog. Why Greymatter before, and why MoveableType now? What's the advantage--ease of use? Cost? Style of comments (I hate Haloscan)? Are programming skills necessary, or familiarity with something like FrontPage or raw HTML?

Hate to see this place go (sniff, sniff, sob quietly), it was the first blog I ever came to back when the "Miserable Failure" story hit the SCLM and I discovered that there WAS such a thing as "political blogs."

Now my family thinks I spend WAY too much time on what they refer to as the "witchboards" and my productivity at work is suffering. I cannot tell you how grateful I am. :)

No software can handle the immense brain of (deep pounding of tribal drums) The Stranger.

Godspeed, young man. Your readers and archives are depending on you.

It ain't as dire as I may have made it sound.

I'm still going to leave this up and will even probably still be posting with it until the new stuff's in place.

It's just been a source of frustration the last few days - but I love it too much to stop.

Just gotta lost this software and get something that works. Who knows? It might install easily and I won't miss a beat...

Good luck with the new software, and keep up the good work!
