The Fallout From A Nuclear Strike On Iran... Pt 1

We estimate that within 48 hours... over 3 million people would die as a result of the attack. About half of those would die from radiation-related causes, either prompt casualties from the immediate radiation effects of the bomb, or from exposure to fallout. For example, the entire city of Isfahan would likely be covered in fallout producing 1000 rems of radiation per hour, a fatal dose. Over 600,000 people would suffer immediate injuries...

...within 48 hours, prevailing winds would spread fallout to cover a large area in Iran, most of Afghanistan and then spread on into Pakistan and India. There is little likelihood, in most seasons, that rain would mitigate the spread of fallout.

In this scenario, over 35 million people in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India would suffer significant radiation exposure of 1 rem per hour or above within four days...

Now, PSR is assuming use of 1.2 Megaton warheads, but, as the Bush Administration are pushing the “tactical nuke” moniker, I an more inclined to assume a 20-50 Kiloton warhead (as if that makes much of a difference, right? Well, it sort of does). In my own view, a War Crime is a War Crime, and whether you kill 3 Million people, or 1 Million people, or a dozen people, you've still committed a War Crime, and are subject to full retaliation and repercussions from every World Player, especially your intented victim, and equally importantly, you are subject to legal action.

Keep in mind, kids, that the concept of Mutually Assured Distruction (MAD) is still the operative mode for Nuclear deterrance. I seriously doubt that the people of Southern Russia, Afghanistan India and Pakistan will stay quiet while they are being irradiated by our fallout. Rather, I suspect that they will loudly and violently demand retaliatory actions from their respective governments. I suspect those actions will be much more than simple sanctions and a verbal rebuke in the U.N.

WE will be viewed as the ultimate pariah, and rogue state, and will be treated as such. The implications are massive-- from economic sanctions to a demand to cash-out all bonds held by foreign entities, to full-scale intercontinental Nuclear War... if we're not Nuked to death, we will be economically crushed within weeks of the actions. I pale when I think of the ramifications on our embassies worldwide, as well as American business interests OutCONUS in the immediate aftermath.

We MUST not let these bastards even THINK about doing this deed.

I REALLY don't like the idea of being governed by rogue elements who flaut the Rule of Law whenever following the Law is inconvenient to them. They need to go... One way or ther other, and as soon as possible. Period.
