Fat Tony Scalia: Way, WAY out of touch.

Wingnuts On ParadeTony's afraid that the brightest lawyers will avoid the federal judiciary if there's no money in it. The irony is that judging by the utter stupidity of what he says on a daily basis, we're apparently well past that point.

The federal judiciary will increasingly fail to attract the best-qualified lawyers if judges' pay doesn't improve, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said Wednesday.

"If you become a federal judge in the Southern District of New York (Manhattan), you can't raise a family on what the salary is," Scalia said during a speech to the Northern Virginia Technology Council.

Federal judges earned salaries of $165,200 in 2006.

Anyone who can't raise a family on $165K should not be in charge of their own finances, if you ask me.

Don't mind my saying so, but Scalia needs to be re-acquainted with reality. He's definitely lost touch with the real world.

Yes ! If the fat cat Government employees want to make money comparable to say a fortune 500 ceo , then they need to find some company to hire them and give up their cush government positions . As a work for a living tax payer , I can't afford to fund people making over 4 times what I do in a year .

$165,200 is precisely the same salary Senators receive. I seem to recall Ricky Santorum saying that he was unable to get by on that salary and had to depend on financial assistance from his parents (whom he characterized as being "retired civil servants" which is technically true, since they both worked for the VA, but also happen to be quite wealthy).

Perhaps Scalia ought to resign his Supreme Court position and become a lobbyist, which is where the real money is!

All politicians say they can't live on the measly $165,000. Then they can't live on $200,000, then $225,000.

Same up here in Canada. Ontario MPPs say they aren't making as much as the feds so they want more. No one ever suggested the feds take a pay cut....no.

Same game the oil companies play....raise up the prices, people grumble, drop it down (but not as much as it went up - this is the "new norm") then rinse, repeat, screw us people.

What about the 109 congress? Do they deserve raises too for doing the least amount of work in the history of Congress?

What a racket we must endure....
