Running interference for Scaredy-Cat Republicans...
So... I wrote the other day about how all the GOP presidential wannabes are ducking and hiding rather than face their own wingnut supporters in the Republican YouTube debate (if it even happens at this point - most of the big GOP guns are still refusing to take part, even though CNN offered to change the date so as not to conflict with Giuliani and Romney's 'scheduling conflicts'). The conservative blogosphere is in disarray (ha! how I loved typing those words) over whether the Top 10 Conservative Idiots should take part, because they feel that CNN is 'baised toward Democrats' (another knee-slapper).
So, what to do? Captain Ed at Captain's Quarters makes a proposal to CNN - let conservative bloggers pick the questions for the debate! This way, says Ed, Cnn's 'bias' won't intrude on the questions, and the conservative blogosphere would have to act 'responsibly' in picking the questions.
C'mon, Ed, let's be real here. If your guys were allowed to pick the questions, the argument would boil down to whether to give them all softballs or marshmallows. The Democrats were offered no such cover by CNN, and neither should the Republicans.
It's this type of shielding your candidates from the Great Unwashed that lends creedence to the idea that the GOP wannabes can't debate outside of a protective bubble where the debate is conducted either by friendly corporate 'journalists' - or by having the questions picked by people on their own side.
Morrissey is usually one of the clearer thinkers on the Right side of the blogosphere, but this has a distinct whiff of letting the candidates hide behind friendly skirts, as it were.
Note to conservatives - let your candidates field all questions, from all sides, with no pre-screening to stifle uncomfortable questions. It's the small-D democratic way. You guys ain't afraid of a little democracy, are ya?
Well, are ya???
