Ok, my 2 cents on the nomintation

PoliticsI take it from Caro’s post below with the “Who’s the Uniter” graphic that she supports Hillary, and Stranger and Invictus weigh in on the loss of Edwards and why he seems irreplaceable. And I don’t want to diss either of those postions.

But hey, we’re all Democrats, so let’s keep with the chaos that we seem to relish. In other words, I’d like to put in a note about why I’m for Obama.

I’ve always liked Edwards’ pitch, but that appeals to those of us that actually believe such a thing as class exists in this county. He’s right. But the public doesn’t believe him, and the Repubs would tear him up on that count as some kinda socialist. He plays right into their “class warfare” narrative that has more traction than I can understand. I think he’s been a good candidate, but never really electable. The primaries show that, and if it's the media's fault or his financials or whatever...well, that's the bottom line.

As for Hillary…I’m sorry to confess it, but Clinton fatigue is at the top of my list. I can’t stand the notion of staying in a 20 year cycle where Rush and his minions merely have to dust off their old copy to continue the slurs and misrepresentations that we’re so familiar with by now. And frankly, I don’t see her as offering anything radically new in legislation, nor do I see her as able to rally any sort of base.

So why pick Obama if, as many have said, he’s not that different from Hillary? Well, I agree with Stranger about his vagueness and his seemingly naďve attempt to reach across the aisle. But you know what? I take that as politics. Yep, about as serious as we all took ol’ GW when he said he was a “compassionate conservative.” I didn’t buy that then, and for the same reason I don’t take Obama too serious on that now. He’s said that at the end of the day there are certain things he won’t compromise on, and I guess I take that on trust.

Well, I know most of you have your heads exploding at this point saying “you’d vote for a liar?” No, I don’t think it’s that. I don’t think Obama is naďve, having done community level organizing and working in the Illinois legislature. That’s not the background of a naďf. But I think Obama does have a chance to change at some fundamental level the narrative we’ve lived through the past 20 years, and that’s something I really, really want.

I’m tired of this shit. And I know Evil Republicans and Stoopid Wingnuts will never go away, ever. But they’re going to have to retool in a major way for Obama that might just expose them for the asshats that they really are. Hillary’s part of the story now, so no new attack would be considered surprising. And I know many, many people have said “hope is not a platform” about Obama, but even at my advanced cynical age right now, I think it’s the best chance we have. Maybe that’s just “wishing for a pony.” But I haven’t seen anyone like Obama come along in all my voting years—hell yes, I voted for Paul Tsongas!—who at some level really made me think he could follow up on the promise. Maybe not. But, even if I became completely disappointed with these hopes, I doubt he’d compromise and dither any more than Hillary would. I’ll take that chance, because do I think he'd be worse than Hillary, even on her worse triangulating day? Not really. Could he much better. Yes, I really think so.

Edwards was the one I supported but now I am going with Hillary.
Don't get me wrong I will vote for either in Nov. but some of Obama's statements worry me.

1) His praise of delusional thinking. I do not want another prez who claims to talk to a fantasy figure in the sky to rationalize/justify their behavior. I do not want to hear some one babbling about his cultism. To me be it Judeism, Christianity, Islam, Baptist's or any other extended con game the only difference between a cult and a religion is how much money they have scammed and for how long.

2) His constant schtick about being Bi partisan. Remember the R's think of bipartisanship as date Rape with themselves in the role of the rapist. I do not want someone setting themselves, and us, up as victims.

3) His degragation of the battles the D's have fought ( granted all to few and all to weakly ) in the last 20 years to mimiumize the savagery of the R's dishonesty and lies. I read his "reagan" interview in full and true he did not specificaly endorse him but that was the impression left plus he never was clear as to the evil and damage that addled ronnie did to the country and the world.

To balance these comments it was uncosciensable for Hillary to give this idiot the authority to use force. She showed some very questionable judgement on the unpatriot act and all to many others

The bottom line is I know that Hillary recognizes the oppostion for the scum they are whereas I think Barack may still think they have some humanity in them.

Yes I must admit I was leaning towards Edwards myself. The problem was that he didn't have enough umph to really gain traction and the media seemed to shut him out. I guess they can't handle more than two candidates from either party at one time. I also think he privately didn't want to put his wife through the process. Fighting cancer is hard enough under normal conditions.
Politicians running for office will say just about anything to gain the office, but in looking at Obama's web site he actually has a plan for changing America. The only thing not mentioned in his plans are how he plans to pay for all those programs. I will give him a plus for his education and experience. He actually has more experience than Hillary. Her claim to fame was being the first lady in Arkansas and the first lady to Bill. I wouldn't consider that the greatest of experience. I'd also like to see how much money she's received from the insurance companys.
So since Edwards is out I'm leaning towards Obama. I know the media would just love for Hillary to win as they, being controled by the likes of Murdock, would rip her to shreads. Look at what they did to Dean and later Kerry.

My biggest fear about Clinton is that she'll "get her war on" to show that she's tough. Standing and applauding Bush's comments on Iraq during the SOTU speech did nothing to dissuade me from that fear.

Obama's speeches. He stands up there and gets you feeling like anything is possible. That's some dangerous shit - used wrong it leads to Bad Things(tm). But he seems sincere in wanting to use it to do good. I dunno if he's the real deal, I don't know if he can pull it off if he becomes president but America needs someone extraordinary to dig itself out of the hole it's dug and Obama has the potential to be extraordinary.

At best Clinton will be competent. Which is good, but we need something better than that.

Even the truth when overanalyzed, becomes confusing. Spare yourself the brain power. Spare each other from the static.

Vote for Barack, and then get active locally if you are not currently. We are going to have to rebuild one community at a time, and people like the Blah 3 readers are a crucial part of this process. Avoid anything that can bring division. (the 'other side' is)

Standing in the sidelines and making comments (forever) just sets up the rep/conservative?/ good boy network for another election swindle/win.

Be strong. Be determined. Beware. Avoid commenting on, and get into the middle of the action. my 2 cents

I'm hoping he's lying now too. We know he's capable of being a real jerk. It would be just great if he could muster up the same disdain he showed for fellow Dem, Clinton, at the SotU for the radical GOPers once he gets elected.

But now that Edwards is out, I'm not going to get too worked up over whom I support. I'll support the nominee of the party and I expect both Clinton and Obama will lose to McCain, the Maverick and media darling.
