Frum Gets Email.

John McCainIn case you haven't heard, renowned conservative speechwriter David Frum came out early and vociferously against McCain's choice of Sarah Palin. I decided to check in on his blog, and it looks like he's got some conservatives who actually agree with him. Here's one email:

....John McCain and the GOP have turned a high-stakes national election in troubled times into something between a Lifetime movie and a sit-com. The fact that they may pull it off (despite, among other issues, the return of "gates", the weirdness of the Alaska Independence Party connection, and the staggering dishonesty regarding Palin's handling of the Bridge to Nowhere) does not change the basic dynamic.

The frenzied cheerleading among conservatives—including most of your compadres at NRO—tells me only that the partisan lust for victory has now completely subsumed principle. I am heartsore about all of this. It is corrupt and ugly.

The GOP's best hope, and their obvious intention, is to employ the tried-and-true Clintonian tactic of deflecting attention from Palin's more serious issues to those Lifetime TV issues that so often cause the public to rise up angry in an orgy of emotional defensiveness—with pregnancy, family meltdown, and "feistiness" standing in, this time, for interns and sexual debasement. That may indeed work—it certainly did for the Clintons—but it should not be an occasion for so much excited pride regarding this election, much less the future of conservatism.

No wonder John McCain refused to re-define "honor" for the kids at Time magazine. There's no honor in any of this.

There are a couple more emails at the link. Some conservatives are not happy with Palin, and they seem to be letting Frum know. If you hit the main page and scroll, there are quite a few emails raking him for his stance on Palin as well.

Make no mistake - Frum is not a friend of liberals. But he does not like McCain's choice for VP, and there's some inherent entertainment value to that.
