Run That By Me Again, Sid?
Al Gore is making some appearances today in South Florida on behalf of Barack Obama, hoping to remind people just how important every vote can be. The local GOP is having none of it, of course:
Palm Beach County GOP Chairman Sid Dinerstein said many Republicans vehemently disagree with Gore's environmental policies, such as limits on oil drilling.Leave aside the fact that Floridians have been pretty consistent in opposing any offshore drilling--does he really think Al Gore will remind people how wonderful it is to have a Republican in the White House instead? How'd that work out for the country--nay, the world--the last time we put a Republican there instead of Al Gore? Sid's got that special sort of reptilian brain that seems to do well in politics, at least at certain levels: just spew the talking points, no matter how absurd and nonsensical they are. Think of his sort as a mean-spirited version of Tickle Me Elmo--prod him in the right spot, and some random bit of silliness comes out."If he comes to Florida, that's just fine, but it won't give Barack Obama a single vote," said Dinerstein. "Instead, it might remind people why we need Republicans in the White House."
