Things are gettin' weird upstate.
When the Republican candidate for an office endorses her Democratic opponent, I'm pretty sure the word 'weird' applies.
Republicans in that district now must choose carefully - either vote for a Centrist Democrat, or vote for a stealth candidate who will owe more to Dick Armey and Sarah Palin than he'll owe to his own constituents.
Will the Republicans in NY-23 put party before common sense, or vote for a guy who doesn't live in their districts and by all accounts knows nothing about the area in which he's running for office?
The GOP is at a crossroads here. This race could determine whether or not the GOP will even remain a viable party in the future. If Hoffman wins this, you'll see Glenn Beck-worshipping candidates bum-rushing moderate Republicans everywhere. But serving a rebuke to the Taliban wing of the party will lose a seat that has been solidly Republican since the beginning of time.
Tough choice. But I'll go on the record as saying I fully expect the voters in NY-23 to willingly slit their own throats in the interest of short-term political gain. It's the Republican Way.
