04/30/2004 Entry: "Oops."

I hope someone explained to the kids that this ain't the way you do it.

A federal drug agent shot himself in the leg during a gun safety presentation to children and his bosses are investigating.

The Drug Enforcement Administration agent, whose name was not released, was giving a gun safety presentation to about 50 adults and students organized by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association, witnesses and police said.

He drew his .40-caliber duty weapon and removed the magazine, according to the police report. Then he pulled back the slide and asked someone in the audience to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded, the report said.

Witnesses said the gun was pointed at the floor and when he released the slide, one shot fired into the top of his left thigh.

ha ha ha ha....
one DEA agent crippled, how many left to go?
seriously though, my cousin is a DEA agent, and im so ashamed. he's such a nice guy too. my own cousin, working for the enemy... my uncle didnt raise him that way, my guess is that the army fucked him up...
just goes to show that no matter how much i hate them, cops are people too, with families and whatnot. it would make it much easier if they were all the raving mad dog killers that the majority of them are...

What a dumbass, when you rack the slide, the shell should eject automatically, unless you don't do it quickly enough. He probably did that, and then when he let go, the hammer fell on the round, inserting the bullet into his thigh.

I'll say it again, what a dumbass.

Justin,
The DEA isn't the enemy, don't think of them in adversarial terms like that. I have to strongly object to that, those guys are just people trying to do their jobs, regardless of the US policy on drugs, which I may disagree with, doesn't mean you should denigrate the DEA. Stow your shaudenfreude.

just because i view them as the enemy doesnt mean that i deny their humanity. i suppose it is sort of like having a relative fighting for the south in the civil war (which is what the drug war is), however, no matter what i think of the individual agents, the organization IS the enemy. even normal cops have duties that actually help people, the DEA ONLY ruins lives. i guess that my opinion may be biased, because i grew up in the largest pot growing area in the entire midwest, so i actually know lots of people who's lives have actually been ruined by those assholes just for trying to feed their families in an area where there was no other work.
either way, politics aside, its always funny when someone stupid hurts themselves... especially if it keeps them from infecting the gene pool. god only knows this country doesnt need any more stupid people.
