04/27/2004 Entry: "This could be not good..."
This could be not good...
...and it also illustrates how Bush will say one thing ('We've decided not to attack Falluja'), and then do the opposite (attack Falluja).
Multiple explosions shook Fallujah after dark Tuesday and plumes of smoke rose into the air as fighting erupted for a second straight night. A U.S. AC-130 gunship hammered targets in the city.Blasts and gunfire went on steadily for more than half an hour in sustained fighting, apparently in the northern Jolan district, a poor neighborhood where Sunni insurgents are concentrated.
Flames could be seen rising from buildings, and mosque loudspeakers in other parts of the city called on firefighters to mobilize.
The fighting broke out as a two-day extension to a cease-fire came to end.
Earlier in the day, U.S. aircraft dropped white leaflets over the city west of Baghdad, calling on insurgents to surrender.
"Surrender, you are surrounded," the leaflets said. "If you are a terrorist, beware, because your last day was yesterday. In order to spare your life end your actions and surrender to coalition forces now. We are coming to arrest you."
The U.S. military on Sunday announced the two-day extension to the fragile cease-fire to give political efforts a chance -- backing down from threats to launch an all-out assault on Fallujah to root our insurgents.
There could be one hell of a blowback from this.

its still a cease fire, they cease firing between shots dont they?
anyone who would take the US at its word would be sorry for it, we are a nation of liars, both historically and presently

And on top of it, though details are sketchy, there's some weird shit with explosions and exchanges of gunfire in Damascus. If I didn't have two books to finish reading, an essay and a book review to write by Friday, and two final exams next week to prep for, I think I'd be diving into a vat of Guinness later this evening and not coming out until it was time to go vote in November--if we're all still here then.

sorry to burst your bubble robin, but american history is stuffed full of lies and broken treaties. just the ones involving the genocide of the native americans would be too many to list here. there are also all of the lies we used to get into wars.
"remember the main"- the lie that got us into the spanish american war
James K. Polk told the country that American blood had been shed on American soil by the Mexican army- the lie that started the mexican american war
LBJ had his Tonkin Gulf lie, that got us into vietnam.
and those are just a few. there are they lies about kuwaiti infants being thrown out of incubators that helped Bush 1 into iraq the first time. reagan lied about the iran contra scandal ( and armed terrorists too). im sure clinton lied us into kosovo and somalia too, he certainly lied about getting his dick sucked. im not even going to get into Bush 2's lies, they are too extensive to go into. the point is that american foriegn policy(and hell, domestic policy too for that matter) has always been based on lies, and probobly always will.
if you can refute any of that, go ahead. if not, maybe you should pull your head out of the sand, face reality, and stop telling people you disagree with to leave the country. the concept of "america, love it or leave it" is really only suitable for country songs. now shave your mullet, and shut the fuck up.

So now, Justin, You are saying we went to war in Kuwait over babies in incubators. What about that Iraqi army thing....Yeah....soldiers....dead people.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
The rest of it isnt worth my time. Do some reading, then do some living, then bring some game
You can go to Canada anytime now Justin, Bye

well, to answer your question, the native americans are believed to have gotten here by crossing the land bridge from east asia durring the ice age, although recent archeological evidence might disprove that, and they may have arrived much earlier. i dont really know what the question "Native Americans got here HOW ?" has to do with anything, but theres your answer. the point is that there were between 20 and 50 million of them, and we wiped them out (after signing many treaties with them). as a matter of fact, many historians have said that hitlers admiration of the way we dealt with the "indian problem" was a great inspiration for his "final solution". theres really not a huge difference between ghettos and reservations after all, and small pox blankets work just as well as poison gas. genocide is genocide.
now, yes, i do remember who was president before LBJ, it was a drug addicted cripple who almost got us all nuked, but it was LBJ's lie that got us into vietnam with both feet, untill then it was more of a gray area, intelligence agency sort of war. the lie was my point.
and no, im not saying that we went into kuwait over baby incubators, we went into kuwait over oil, the baby incubator lie was just to sell it to the american people. i dont think joe six pack would have wanted to get involved in a legitimate territorial dispute, mainly about kuwait siphoning off iraq's oil fields.
as for doing some reading, you have no idea, i dont think that you even read what you post here... as for doing some living, im doing quite well thank you, and as for bringing some game, im not a 14 year old boy, so i really dont even think in terms like that. any other stupid come backs?

Justin, paragraphs, paragraphs, please. Capitalize, indent, it's so hard to follow this when you data dump.
Robin, the America love it or leave it is a false argument. It's my country too, and I have the right to express my opinion too. What if the British had told the colonists that if they didn't like it, to leave? And as far as I know, the Native Americans were here before any white men arrived, so I think that pretty much demolishes any argument you might have. What if they had told the white men to leave if they didn't like it? It's called tolerance, they tolerated the settlers, we have to tolerate things we don't necessarily don't approve of, or even like. But for people who are the cheerleaders of the current president to trot out that old tired cliche about if you don't like it, leave, doesn't address the substance of their complaints, and it suppresses opposing viewpoints, which is a dangerous path to go down, because when do you stop? When all people who disagree with your political views leave the country? When all people who disagree with your personal views leave the country? When all people who don't agree with you on every single issue leave the country? There's a name for that and it's called a monolithic society, and they're doomed to extinction, because no creative thought was ever fostered by people who agreed with everyone else all the time. Monolithic societies are studied, but only in history books, and through anthropology and archeology. I don't ever intend to let my country, America, the greatest country on this Earth, ever suffer that fate. If you disagree with me, fine, but remember I tolerate your opinion just as much as you tolerate mine. We're here, we're different, and we're not going anywhere, get used to it.

Oh, and President Kennedy was actually drawing down the forces in Vietnam. We will never know the result of that intention because it was interrupted by his assassination, but he was such a popular president that it's safe to say he probably would have been re-elected. LBJ's big mistake was that he listened too much to Robert McNamara. Kennedy may have withdrawn from Vietnam entirely, and left them to work out their own fate. We'll never know.
Posted by Stentor @ 04/28/2004 01:31 PM NY
it's my language, and i will use it as i wish (or else the terrorists win)
i was only using LBJ as an example of lies about war, not to lay the entire blame for vietnam on him, or kennedy, or even nixon. vietnam is over, and we lost, for whatever reasons.
i do agree with you on the issue of tolerance, and a monolithic society though, except for one point. if the native americans (meaning the continent, not the country) had just killed every white man to get off the boat back in 1492, i doubt things would have turned out so badly for them.
